Robert T. Kretchmar joined the Oberlin faculty in 1953 and before his death in 1961, he coached the varsity baseball team, advanced to the rank of professor, and undertook a number of endeavors to foster physical activity among Oberlin’s youth. His peers referred to Kretchmar as a “modest, friendly, and attractive person who easily won the admiration of his teachers and fellow students. He was continually growing in wisdom and stature and in the favor of God and man.”
